PAUL McCARTNEY OPENS THE NATION’S FIRST FULLY FREE HOSPITAL FOR THE HOMELESS “THIS IS THE LEGACY WE CHOOSE TO LEAVE.”
No applause. No ribbon. Just two doors opening at 5 a.m.
As dawn settled over Los Angeles, Paul McCartney quietly welcomed the first patients at the Paul McCartney Legacy Medical Center. A 250-bed facility offering lifelong, no-cost care for unhoused individuals, including cancer treatment, trauma surgery, mental health services, addiction recovery, dental care, and permanent housing above the wards.
Funded with $142 million raised privately, without concerts or media fanfare, the hospital opened only when it was ready. The first patient, a Navy veteran named Thomas, was greeted personally by Paul.
“This place exists,” Paul said softly, “so no one is invisible again.”
